Movie Posters For Sale: A to Z
Why do we love movie posters so much?
For most, I think it is because of that connection you get with a movie that truly inspires you, makes you
think, makes you cry, or maybe just scares the crap out of you (some people really like
that)!
Of course, posters were created originally to sell a
move. But they have taken on a life of their own and now you can find many retail and Internet outlines that
have thousands of movie posters for sale. Whole books are written about movie posters
detailing the “stories” of the posters - so that what was made to point to a story (the movie) have
often become a story themselves. Stories about the times in which the posters were made, the artists who made
them, the influences behind their creation and what they were trying to accomplish through a particular
design.
I’ve been looking at a book called A Century of
Movie Posters: From Silent to Art House. The first line of the introduction says, “It is often said that
movie posters communicate the essence of film.” The author goes on to point out that this is not always the
case. Sometimes postures don’t connect so directly with the images in the movie itself but to the people of a
given time and place.
Again, I think this is a reason that posters have become
so popular. They connect us to a time and place in our life that goes beneath the surface of the movie
itself.
We love to tell the stories of the movies. There are
back stories to the movies that make them even more interesting than just sitting in a theater or at home on
the couch and watching them. We are beginning below an A to Z listing of individual movies you can find for
sale...and sometimes we highlight movie genres or categories and some of the stories behind
them.
We hope you enjoy what you learn here and you may be all
the more motivated to get a movie poster.
Or you may even become a collector. So before we start
listing movie, here are some tips for protecting your posters whether you have 1 or 5,000.
- Use sturdy poster tubes for shipping and if you need
to store them for any length of time make sure it is in a cool, dry place. You can also cover the tubes
with plastic for extra protection from moisture.
- Keep your poster out of direct sunlight. You’ve seen
what it can do to furniture or carpet that’s exposure to light for a long time. Imagine what it can do to
paper in a much shorter time.
- A lot of this is common sense but sometimes we
forget to think before acting. So don’t write on it, even the back, because it can show
through.
- Think about getting a frame for your poster.
Otherwise, how else are you going to display it? You can use a backing- board that is acid free. You
don’t want to put tape on it. (Sometimes an acid free tape can be used for repairs done on the
back).
- If you do
have a nice and maybe costly poster, and it needs some repair, there are professionals who do
that.
